Pronouns

Definition - As the name suggests, pronouns replace or stand for a noun and generally they take the place of a noun already mentioned in the speech or text. They are used to avoid repeating a noun when it is clear to who or what we are referring.

Types - There are many kinds of pronouns. The following is a short list of the most common types.

Personal pronouns represent people or things:
             • yo [I], usted [you], nos [us], ellos [they], consigo [with him/herself], ...

Interrogative pronouns are used in questions:
             • ¿qué? [what?], ¿quién? [who?], ¿cuáles? [which?], ...

Demonstrative pronouns refer to location:
             • éstos [these], aquélla [that], ...

Note: Demonstratives can be either adjectives or pronouns depending on the presence or absence of nouns.
